What do Think About It, Overpass, Arapaho, Nimalee, Bois D’Argent and You Wahng have in common?

They all competed at Gosford Race Club’s The Coast meeting before going on to win at Group 1 level.

Since launching in 2021, The Coast has quickly built a reputation as a proven pathway to elite racing, also producing winners of major races including The Big Dance, Five Diamonds, The Hunter and the Magic Millions Cup.

Gosford Race Club CEO Daniel Lacey said the meeting is strategically placed on the calendar and caters for all types of horses.

“The Coast has been very strong for milers, the Takeover Target Stakes for sprinters and the Gosford Gold Cup for stayers,” he said.

One of the standout graduates is Think About It, who won at Gosford in 2023 before going on a Group 1 winning streak including success in The Everest. Overpass has also become a multiple Group 1 winner after racing at The Coast.

Other graduates include Arapaho, Nimalee, Bois D’Argent and You Wahng, all of whom progressed to Group 1 success after appearing at the meeting.

The $500,000 The Coast has already produced winners such as Brandenburg, Rustic Steel, Palmetto, Magnaspin and Know Thyself, with strong form continuing to flow through to major spring and winter races.

Lacey said recent track upgrades have improved racing quality, particularly through the home turn, with multiple track records now broken since the changes.

The Gosford Gold Cup also carries history, with Glynn Schofield still the only jockey to win it three times, while Jay Ford returns this year aboard Kind Words, who is chasing a rare double with the Belle of the Turf.

The Takeover Target Stakes honours Takeover Target, the $1,250 purchase who became a global Group 1 winner and earned over $6 million in prizemoney.

Gosford continues to grow as a training hub, with around 80 horses currently in work and numbers expected to rise to 180 once new stable construction is completed later this year.
